The Pale Mountains

Picture of SeiserAlm & Langkofel

spring '94: snow is melting - picture taken by Markus

Sometimes the breath is taken away, by something so out of the ordinary, like the view from the Alpe di Siusi pasture (Seiseralm) across the domed mountains, the Sassolungo (Langkofel) and Sassopiatto (Plattkofel).

This immense stone colossus is unique in the world, made of limestone, towering above fertile alpine valleys and dark woods. For 100 million years the pale mountains have stood, still peaceful despite the onslaught of all those who have seen them in the distance and wanted to experience mountain life.

Many people come. Rock climbers and alpine ramblers, people who love both adventure and the special peace of the mountains. All of them are fascinated and most of them never forget these mountains. When far away, they will remember them, dream of them, write about them and soon, inevitably, they will return.

The names in italics are the original german equivalent of the otherwise italian names.
